Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) is pleased to announce the induction of Marty Cosby, B'81, EdD'16, into the LMU Literary Hall of Fame.

Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) will host the annual Christmas Festival Thursday, November 30. The day of holiday activities kicks off at 10 a.m. in Tex Turner Arena and will culminate with a free performance by the Knoxville Symphony Chamber Orchestra (KSCO) at 7 p.m. The traditional LMU Christmas Lighting will take place at 6 p.m. featuring the Middlesboro High School Choir.

The LMU Choir will hold its fall concert Tuesday, November 21, at 7 p.m. The performance will take place in the Sam and Sue Mars Performing Arts Center in the Duke Hall of Citizenship.

Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) Vice President for University Advancement Cynthia L. Whitt has announced plans to step away from her current position, effective December 31. Whitt will continue to work with the University in a consultant role moving forward.

Gary Houck, ’76, was inducted into the Educators’ Hall of Fame. Houck was unable to be present during LMU’s annual Homecoming celebration at the Educators’, Literary and Professional Halls of Fame Induction and Alumni Awards Ceremony in Tex Turner Arena on Saturday, Oct. 14. His award will be presented at a later time.

The featured speaker was Jenae Tiki Matikke, a scholarship recipient who graduated from LMU in 2020 with a Master of Business Administration and is currently working toward a Doctor of Business Administration.

Black Opry and Gangstagrass will headline a pair of live tapings of “Appalachia Sessions Live” at Lincoln Memorial University (LMU)’s Tex Turner Arena on Monday, September 18, and Tuesday, September 19. Black Opry will be joined by Benjamin Dakota Rogers and Caleb Lee Hutchinson for Monday’s show, while Brennen Leigh and Abe Partridge will be featured on Tuesday. The concerts are free and open to the public with a canned food donation to Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee.

The Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) Board of Trustees will unveil and dedicate a new statue honoring General Oliver Otis Howard during its annual Homecoming celebration at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 13.

Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) President Clayton Hess, PhD, has announced the promotion of Dr. Jason McConnell to senior executive vice president. In his new role, McConnell will assume senior leadership responsibilities and be tasked with oversight of divisions including Academic Affairs, Enrollment Management and University Advancement in addition to the divisions of Finance, Information Services and Physical Plant which were already under his leadership.

The Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) Women of Service (WOS) presented its annual award to alumna Judy Hounshell of Rose Hill, Virginia, during its 2023 WOS Fashion Show. The Cynthia L. Whitt Woman of Service Award was created to recognize an exemplary woman who is making a difference in the communities that LMU serves. The name of the award honors Cynthia L. Whitt, LMU vice president for University Advancement, and her contributions toward the establishment of the LMU WOS organization. Hounshell is a 1969 graduate of LMU and has served the University in numerous capacities.

Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) will host two live tapings of “Appalachia Sessions Live” at 5 p.m. on Monday, September 18 and noon on Tuesday, September 19 in Tex Turner Arena. “Appalachia Sessions Live” features Chris Blue and Crockett and will include performances from select artists to be announced later. Nan Kelley, the former host of Great American Country’s “Top 20 Country Countdown” and the Grand Ole Opry's television show “Opry Live,” joins Blue as co-host for this second season of “Appalachia Sessions Live.”

The Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) Women of Service (WOS) Fashion Show is just around the corner. The event, set for Thursday, August 17, in Tex Turner Arena, is sponsored this year by Dr. Audrey Kinder of Kinder Family and Cosmetic Dentistry of Pineville, Kentucky. Kinder graduated magna cum laude from LMU in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in biology. She went on to earn a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry in 2018. Tickets must be purchased in advance.

The LMU President’s Award is given to an individual in recognition of excellence in performance, whether for normal or extra duties, assigned or pursued at one’s own volition.

The Tennessee Greater Smoky Mountain Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) gathered for the organization’s annual National Philanthropy Day Celebration on Thursday, November 3. During the event AFP recognized Lincoln Memorial University’s Women of Service (WOS) with the 2022 Award for Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser.

Award-winning author Silas House will visit Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) for a special event Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at 7 p.m. House will be reading from his new novel, “Lark Ascending,” answering questions and signing books. Some copies of the book and other items will be given away as well. The event will be held in the Duke Hall of Citizenship, Sam & Sue Mars Performing Arts Center.

Mission of Hope (MOH) is continuing its longstanding support of students in its service area by donating funds to Lincoln Memorial University (LMU). The funds are designated for the Mission of Hope Endowed Scholarship in Memory of Dedrick Andrew Courtney.

Douglas and Judy Graham, of Ewing, Virginia, have established the Graham Family Endowed Scholarship at Lincoln Memorial University (LMU). The scholarship will provide financial support for students from Lee County, Virginia.

Lincoln Memorial University’s (LMU) Student Services department is hosting its first Family Weekend, welcoming undergraduate students’ family members for three days of fun and activities. It is scheduled to take place September 16-18, 2022.

Country music star Chase Bryant will perform in concert at Lincoln Memorial University at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 6 in Tex Turner Arena. The concert, presented and planned by the Student Services Division, is part of the University’s 125th Anniversary and Homecoming celebrations.

The Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) Women of Service (WOS) recently made a donation to Mission of Hope to support relief efforts for flood victims in Southeast Kentucky. Mission of Hope Executive Director Emmette Thompson stopped at LMU’s main campus in Harrogate on his way to the flood zone. LMU WOS members and LMU staff presented Thompson with the donation.

The event, set for Thursday, August 18, in Tex Turner Arena, will feature a separate vendor fair with extended hours, a buffet meal with a chocolate fountain, and fashions modeled on stage. All tickets must be purchased in advance and will not be available at the door. The vendor event, free and open to the public, will be set up in the upper concourse of Tex Turner Arena from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Vendors will include jewelry, home décor, beauty products, clothing, cookies, canned foods, Operation Christmas Child and more.

Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) President Clayton Hess has appointed Dr. Jay Stubblefield as executive vice president for academic affairs. He returned to LMU, effective July 1, 2022, after having first served in the vice president for academic affairs position from 2019 until 2021 and will lead the academic affairs division of the University and serve in the president’s cabinet and executive council.

Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) Assistant Vice President for Academic and Student Support Services Blaze Bowers has named Porscha Yeary as coordinator of aquatics. Yeary will be at the helm for the grand reopening of the LMU pool on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, after a time of closure for renovations. Renovations to the pool include a new heater with a new liner planned, and the reopening of the indoor pool comes in time for the summer break. The pool is popular with not only LMU students, faculty and staff, but with the community as well. The grand reopening will bring with it popular classes, open swim times and access for birthday parties. The celebration, which is free to attend, is scheduled for 2-4 p.m. and there will be refreshments available. Visitors can swim or just visit, and memberships can be purchased.

Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) Assistant Vice President for Academic and Student Support Services Blaze Bowers has announced the promotion of Director of Student Leadership and Outreach Hannah Wilson to associate dean of students.

Dr. Gary Burchett was honored recently by the Cumberland Gap Region Tourism Association (CGRTA) for his devoted efforts to highlighting the region and making it a vacation destination. Burchett is a former Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) president and longtime member of the LMU Board of Trustees. He is a founding member of the CGRTA and serves on its board of directors.

Lincoln Memorial University will present its FREE family-friend outdoor movie series on the first Friday in June, July and August. The series will get underway with Disney's "Encanto" on June 3 at the Harrogate City Park

The Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) Student Services Division is proud to present national recording artist, singer, songwriter and actor Jesse McCartney as the featured performer at the Lincoln Memorial University Spring Concert at Tex Turner Arena at 7 p.m., Saturday, April 9.

Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) President Clayton Hess has named David Honeycutt as the new chief of LMU Police and Security. In this role, Honeycutt will oversee all police and security operations at LMU and lead the nationally recognized LMU Police and Security department, which includes a staff of almost 50 personnel including POST-certified police officers, armed security guards, unarmed security guards, dispatchers and administrative staff. In addition to the main campus, the department serves LMU’s nine off-campus learning sites. Honeycutt brings 27 years of law enforcement experience to LMU. Most recently he used his expertise at the Union County Sheriff’s Department, where he worked from 2019 until he accepted the post at LMU.

Following a day of celebration on Friday, the ALLM will offer free admission to the public on Saturday, October 9. A full day of family programming is planned to include activities in the Museum and outdoor fun in the Pioneer Village. In the ALLM, the National Society Daughters of the Union Lincoln Learning Lab will be open for the first time. The lab is a place for children to explore the past through play and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering Art, and Mathematics). In the Pioneer Village, demonstrations of the connections between science and the Civil War will take place, along with an apple butter demonstration from reenactors. At the Lincoln birthplace cabin, Mr. Lincoln himself (portrayed by Dennis Boggs) will be on hand to talk to visitors about his childhood and experiences as President.

In this role, Church will lead the University’s efforts in institutional research, institutional effectiveness and accreditation.
