Class of 2025 graduates Cody Lane and Emma Talley were recognized with Lincoln Memorial University’s highest student honors for character, leadership, and service. Lane received the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award, and Talley was honored with the Mary Mildred Sullivan Award.
The awards were presented during LMU’s 2025 Student Leadership Awards Banquet, held April 23 at Tex Turner Arena. Lane, a veterinary health science major, plans to gain clinical experience before beginning studies at the LMU-Richard A. Gillespie College of Veterinary Medicine in January 2026. Talley, who majored in elementary education, will begin teaching at West Elementary this fall.
The Sullivan Awards are among the highest honors presented at LMU and are given annually to students who embody the values of integrity, compassion, and service to others. Established by the New York Southern Society in honor of Algernon Sydney Sullivan and his wife Mary Mildred Sullivan, these awards are bestowed at select colleges and universities across the southeastern United States.
“The Student Leadership Banquet is now a tradition woven into the tapestry of the student leader experience at LMU,” said Dean of Students Elise Syone. “It continues to be a way to recognize the remarkable work and dedication of the student leaders that truly make LMU special. Their passion and commitment to serving the LMU community continues to inspire the work I and the Student Affairs team do each day. It is a privilege to walk alongside our students as they learn and develop in leadership roles, and we take pride in recognizing them and their accomplishments each year.”
