The chapter was co-authored by LMU-CDM faculty members Mahdieh Alipour, DDS, Ph.D.; Modar Kassan, Ph.D.; Candice Johnson, DDS; and corresponding authors Ammaar Abidi, DDS, Ph.D., and Qi Wang, DDS. Their contribution underscores LMU-CDM’s ongoing commitment to advancing dental science through research and academic excellence.
“Innovative Dental Materials” explores significant developments in dental biomaterials aimed at transforming preventive, restorative and regenerative care. The authors address the biological complexities of the oral environment and examine materials that inhibit bacterial biofilms, promote remineralization and support tissue regeneration.
The chapter covers a wide range of emerging topics, including bioactive and biomimetic materials, nanotechnology in dentistry, smart biomaterials and advances in tissue engineering. The authors advocate for continued research to drive the evolution of dental materials that not only enhance clinical performance but also improve patient outcomes and satisfaction.
