Research & Grants Committee

The mission of the LMU-DCOM Research and Grants Committee is to consider all matters pertaining to initiation of research projects, prioritizing, funding, evaluating and auditing of grant applications, and identifying funding opportunities and community projects of LMU-DCOM. These matters shall consist of, but will not be limited to faculty basic science research, clinical research, drug trials, consortia projects both domestic and international, as well as community-oriented research with collaboration from members of the tri-state area. This committee is chaired by the Director of Research and consists of LMU-DCOM faculty members from the basic sciences and clinical medicine departments.

Faculty Intramural Research Grants

All full-time faculty members of LMU-DCOM are eligible to apply for Intramural Research Grants. These grants are intended to serve as seed money that will allow the investigator to initiate a new research project with the expectation that extramural funding will be sought for future continuation of the project. All research funds awarded are subject to established accountability guidelines, and applicants must adhere to reporting requirements in order to be eligible to draw funds.

DeBusk Summer Research Scholar Award

The DeBusk Research Scholar Award provides an opportunity for LMU-DCOM medical students to spend the summer working with experienced investigators in an appropriate environment devoted to research. The goal of the program is to provide students with an experience that will produce better physicians by acquainting students with scientific methodology. Students may conduct short-term research projects in any area of basic or clinical sciences, including any branch of the basic or clinical sciences, medical education, and health policy related areas of inquiry. This program is administered by the Research and Grants Committee (RGC), and applications to the program are reviewed by the RGC.

Basic/Clinical Science Research Scholar Award for Students

The Basic/Clinical Science Research Scholar Award for Students provides an opportunity for LMU-DCOM students to work with experienced basic science investigators in an environment devoted to research. The goal of the program is to provide students with an experience that will produce better physicians by acquainting students with scientific methodology. Students may conduct research projects during the academic year in the basic/clinical sciences for a term of either one semester or two semesters. A student cannot be a recipient of both the DeBusk Summer Scholar Award and the Basic Science Scholar Award at the same time. This program is administered by the Research Grants Committee (RGC), and applications to the program are reviewed by the RGC.

Process for Applying to External Funding Agencies

Faculty wishing to submit an application to an external funding agency must follow the procedures outlined in the ORGSP guidelines for grant routing and submission, which begins with the completion and submission of the Intent to Apply form.
