Civil War armies were vast, and the ALLM has documents referring to only a small percentage of the men who served. Your best bet for finding specific records about an individual soldier or sailor is to contact the National Archives or the archives of the state where they enlisted.
Our collection does include many rare regimental histories and other materials that might include information about units or events in which your ancestor participated. If you know which unit your ancestor joined or the names of battles in which they fought, we may be able to provide some information about their service.
Most of LMU’s records relating to the history of the university and the surrounding community are stored at the Carnegie-Vincent Library’s Archives and Special Collections. Click the link below to learn more about accessing this material.
