High-quality research proposals on the following priority topics in medical/health professions education are strongly encouraged; proposals related to other areas of research are also welcome:

  • Assessment methods, approaches, or theories
  • Curriculum studies
  • Educational leadership and organizational change
  • Educational research methods, approaches, or theories
  • Evaluation methods, approaches, or theories
  • Instructional methods, approaches, or theories

Proposals from international scholars and institutions are welcome. Multi-disciplinary and/or multi[1]institutional collaborations are encouraged, as are projects that advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in the health professions. The Fund targets research projects, and does not support projects focused solely on development or evaluation. Proposed projects are limited to 1 year in duration. Total funds available for all projects funded in each year is no more than $40,000 in direct costs (with no indirect costs supported); that is, if funds remain after funding the highest-ranked project, a second project may be funded that requires only the remaining funds. The proposal process involves a letter of intent, followed by a full proposal by invitation; proposals are reviewed by a combination of UIC DME faculty and external reviewers.
