Residency Application Timeline

The Office of Career Services supports students from OMS-I through graduation with career guidance, residency preparation, and alumni services.

Student Support

  • Career Guidance through email updates, presentations, and a monthly residency-focused seminar series (with Alumni Services).
  • Access to AAMC Careers in Medicine in OMS-I, offering career exploration and residency assessment tools.
  • Preparation of the Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE/Dean's Letter), including OMS-III clinical evaluations and transcripts for residency applications.
  • Representation as the Dean's Work Station contact for residency application services.

Alumni Support

  • Acts as the Medical Education and Licensure Verification office for all LMU-DCOM osteopathic physician alumni.
  • Completes and submits required medical education verification forms.
  • Serves as the fellowship application contact for residency application services

Fall and Spring Semesters, First Year:
  • Explore specialty choices on Careers in Medicine (CiM)
  • Begin working on your CV
  • Explore campus clubs & specialty interests areas
  • Attend the DO Seminar Series to network with alumni
  • Explore resources on LMU-DCOM Career Services Canvas
  • Make an email folder for career services emails
Fall and Spring Semesters, Second Year:
Fall Semester, Third Year:
  • Begin working on your personal statement. Resources are available on LMU-DCOM Career Services Canvas.
  • Request letters of recommendation from preceptors
Spring Semester, Third Year:
  • Research residency programs
  • Finalize your personal statement and CV
Summer Between Third & Fourth Years:
  • ERAS and other application services open for completion of residency application
Fall Semester, Fourth Year:
  • Schedule and attend audition/away rotations
  • Review your MSPE with the Office of Career Services
  • Review Big Interview Medical for interview resources
Spring Semester, Fourth Year:
  • Finalize rank order lists of residency programs
  • Match results released
  • Attend your Match Celebration! (sponsored by the Office of Alumni Services)
