LMU-Knoxville PA Program

Congratulations on your choice to pursue a career as a Physician Assistant (PA), ranked by U.S. News & World Report #1 in “Best Health Care Jobs” in 2019. PAs are in demand and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a 37% increase in employment from 2016-2026. And the median annual wage of over $104,000 provides a great return on investment.

Students in Class
This 115 credit hour curriculum provides a solid foundation in primary care medicine but also includes expanded training in surgical practice. During the first year (Didactic Phase), topics presented in human cadaver anatomy and dissection are aligned with topics presented in clinical medicine, patient assessment, and clinical skills to help students link and apply concepts. During the second year (Clinical Phase), students complete 12   4-  week supervised clinical practice experiences (SCPEs) including required SCPEs in primary care disciplines, general surgery, and selective SCPEs in general surgery or surgical subspecialties.

Thank you for your interest in the LMU-Knoxville PA Program.  Please contact us at [email protected] with any questions about our ARC-PA accreditation status, application and admissions requirements, cohort start dates, curriculum format and delivery, student services, supervised clinical practice experiences (SCPEs), or anything else of interest that is not published on our website.

  •  University Regional Accreditation

Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) to award associate, baccalaureate, masters, specialist, and doctorate degrees. Contact the Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097 or call 404.679.4500 for questions about the accreditation of LMU. Lincoln Memorial University maintains accreditation from SACS to confer the Master of Medical Science (MMS) in Physician Assistant Studies to graduates of the LMU-Knoxville PA Program.

  •  Professional Accreditation

**LMU has an established PA Program in Harrogate, TN that is separate from the developing PA Program in Knoxville, TN. The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) reviews each LMU PA Program separately for compliance with the ARC-PA Standards and policies and determines the ARC-PA accreditation status for each LMU PA Program separately. **

The ARC-PA has granted Accreditation-Provisional status to the Lincoln Memorial University-Knoxville Physician Assistant program sponsored by Lincoln Memorial University-Knoxville.

Accreditation-Provisional is an accreditation status granted when the plans and resource allocation, if fully implemented as planned, of a proposed program that has not yet enrolled students appear to demonstrate the program’s ability to meet the ARC-PA Standards or when a program holding Accreditation- Provisional status appears to demonstrate continued progress in complying with the Standards as it prepares for the graduation of the first class (cohort) of students.

Accreditation-Provisional does not ensure any subsequent accreditation status. It is limited to no more than five years from matriculation of the first class.

The program’s accreditation history can be viewed on the ARC-PA website at

Contact the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc., (ARC-PA) at 12000 Findley Road, Suite 275, Johns Creek, Georgia 30097, call 770-476-1224, or visit the ARC-PA website  ( for questions about ARC-PA Standards.

PA graduates must pass the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE) in order to practice in all states, the District of Columbia, and all American territories. PA graduates are only eligible to take the PANCE if they have graduated from a PA program accredited by the ARC-PA. The LMU-Knoxville PA Program is responsible for obtaining and maintaining ARC-PA Accreditation and for complying with ARC-PA Standards and policies. The Program will inform all matriculating and enrolled PA Students in person and/or via email or U.S. mail of any change in the Program’s ARC-PA Accreditation status in addition to posting this information on the Program’s website.
