Master of Science in Veterinary Medical Technology

Program Overview

The Master of Science in Veterinary Medical Technology (MS-VMT) at the Lincoln Memorial University-Richard A. Gillespie College of Veterinary Medicine is designed for credentialed veterinary technicians who already hold a bachelor’s degree and want to deepen their experience without needing to complete a clinical rotation.

This is the first master’s program in the United States created to help veterinary technicians expand their knowledge and skills gained through AVMA CVTEA-accredited programs. Graduates of the MS-VMT program develop master-level expertise in:

  • Evidence-based medicine
  • Patient care management
  • Emerging veterinary technology trends

Program Format

The MS-VMT program is 100% online and delivered asynchronously. Students can enroll full-time or part-time.

  • Full-time enrollment: Students enrolled full-time take at least 9 credit hours per semester and can complete the full 30-credit program in as little as three semesters.
  • Part-time enrollment: Students enrolled part-time may complete the required coursework over the course of five years.

Career Outlook

While the MS-VMT does not currently lead to additional licensure, graduates gain a deeper, more specialized understanding of duties within a clinical setting and serve as advocates for fuller utilization of technician skills. At a time of unprecedented growth and demand across various industries that utilize veterinary professionals, MS-VMT graduates gain advanced training that supports these industries. All students must be credentialed veterinary technicians before entering the program and must remain in compliance with state licensure requirements after graduation.
