Certificate of Veterinary Education

Program Overview

The Certificate of Veterinary Education (CVEd) is designed for current veterinary professionals—including DVM/VMDs and credentialed veterinary technicians—who are teaching or plan to teach in veterinary education settings, such as DVM or veterinary technician/technology programs.

  • Format: 100% online and asynchronous

  • Duration: 2 to 4 semesters, based on full- or part-time enrollment

  • Focus: Enhancing teaching skills specifically for veterinary education

What You'll Learn

The CVEd program blends general post-secondary education theory with veterinary-specific teaching strategies. Coursework is grounded in real-world veterinary education, using examples and assignments aligned with:

  • AVMA veterinary and technician competencies

  • AAVMC CBVE Domains

Assignments are tailored to reflect classroom and lab instruction, with opportunities for interactive, student-focused discussions.

Ideal Candidates

This program is for veterinary professionals who:

  • Are actively teaching or mentoring students or trainees

  • Want to transition into an academic teaching role

Curriculum

The CVEd is a 100% online, asynchronous program, meaning students can complete assignments on a flexible schedule that works for them. The CVEd is accomplished in a minimum of 14 hours of coursework; students may take up to 20 hours if they wish. The program can be completed in two semesters with full-time enrollment, but must be completed in no more than 4 semesters.

Please note, course offerings are subject to change. Students and interested applicants are advised to review the Graduate Program Catalog for a full list of core requirements, electives, and program policies. It is the student's responsibility to ensure all requirements for graduation are met. It is the student's responsibility to be familiar with curriculum, graduation requirements, and program policies as listed in the Catalog.
