Conservation Biology

The Conservation Biology major is a comprehensive four-year program with two tracks. The Wildlife and Fisheries Track will provide you with the minimum requirements for certification as an associate wildlife biologist, which can open the door to various employment opportunities. The Research Track allows your educational experiences to be customized to support your specific career aspirations, which is perfect if you enjoy research and already have a goal in mind. Conservation Biology majors frequently enter careers in environmental science, wildlife management, national parks, and so many more. Both curriculums prepare students for these and various other opportunities with our flexible programs designed with you in mind.

Program Tracks

Wildlife and Fisheries

This track emphasizes the applied management of wildlife and fisheries populations and habitats. Students are interested in field-based careers in wildlife conservation, fisheries science, habitat management, or related areas. The curriculum is designed to meet the academic requirements for certification as an Associate Wildlife Biologist through The Wildlife Society, giving graduates a competitive edge when seeking employment with state and federal agencies or pursuing advanced degrees in wildlife or fisheries science.

Research

This track is designed for students interested in the scientific study of biodiversity, ecosystems, and conservation challenges. With a strong emphasis on fieldwork, data analysis, and research methodology, this track prepares students for the rigors of graduate-level study in ecology, conservation biology, environmental science, and related disciplines. Elective flexibility ensures that students can obtain prerequisites for professional schools. This track attracts students who are curious, detail-oriented, and committed to using science to address real-world environmental issues, and it provides a strong foundation for research-focused careers or advanced academic training.
