What are certified educational loans?

Certified educational student loans are offered by various lending institutions to help students cover the gap between their total educational costs and other financial assistance.

Eligibility for these loans is determined by multiple factors, including the student’s credit history. Students without established credit may need a co-signer with good credit to qualify. The requirements for eligibility and loan terms vary by lender. The amount borrowed cannot exceed the university’s established cost of attendance minus any other financial assistance received.

Federal regulations require students to complete a Private Education Loan Applicant Self-Certification Form. Most lending institutions will prompt students to complete this form as part of the online application process. Once a student is approved for a certified educational loan, the lending institution will send a certification request to the university. Please allow 5-10 business days for this certification. After certification, the certified educational loan will be added to the student’s financial aid offer.

We encourage students to borrow only what is necessary. Creating a budget for educational expenses can help students determine how much they need to borrow, thus reducing the risk of overborrowing.

Preferred Lender List

Preferred Lender List - FASTChoice

Lincoln Memorial University utilizes FASTChoice, a loan comparison tool offered by Nelnet, which allows students to compare up to five different loans side-by-side. Within FASTChoice, there are advanced filters that you may use to assist with your search, including filters for interest rate type, enrollment, and past due balances.

You may choose to borrow through any lender, including lenders not on our preferred lender list. If you choose to borrow through a lender that is not on our list, we will process your application and certify your eligibility with that lender.
