The Office of Research and Basic Sciences at the LMU-College of Veterinary Medicine at Orange Park is focused on growing our students into clinician-scientists who will discover and implement the future of veterinary medicine. We foster this growth by weaving research throughout our veterinary and graduate curriculum, supporting impactful, collaborative research in a variety of disciplines, celebrating our students' research accomplishments, and engaging with our community so that our discoveries have real-world impacts.

Advancing Inquiry, Innovation, and Impact

At OPCVM, the Office of Research and Basic Sciences champions our core value of growth by advancing inquiry, innovation, and impact across the college. We foster compassionate accountability by upholding ethical research standards, supporting responsible conduct of research, and mentoring students and faculty through the research process. Through collaborative engagement, we build partnerships across disciplines, institutions, and communities to address complex challenges in animal, human, and environmental health. Guided by appreciative inquiry, we cultivate a culture of curiosity and discovery—encouraging faculty, staff, and students to ask bold questions, explore emerging ideas, and contribute to a more evidence-based, compassionate veterinary profession. The Office of Research provides critical infrastructure and support for grant development, regulatory compliance, student research opportunities, and scholarly dissemination, ensuring that research is an integral and accessible part of the OPCVM experience.

Student research at OPCVM is intentionally woven into the educational experience to inspire curiosity, critical thinking, and evidence-based practice. Research is integrated throughout the curriculum, including coursework in research literacy, experimental methods and design, case-based learning, and data-informed clinical decision-making, to ensure that our students grow into their roles as clinician-scientists who will discover and implement the future of veterinary medicine.

Beyond the classroom, the Office of Research and Basic Sciences supports students with mentored research experiences, opportunities to present at local, regional, and national conferences and community outreach programs. Students are encouraged to pursue original projects aligned with their interests with guidance from faculty mentors. To encourage student research, the Office of Research facilitates access to institutional resources, including IRB/IACUC support, statistical consulting, and funding for scholarly travel and dissemination. By weaving research engagement into our student experiences early and often, we encourage our students to become key contributors to impactful, collaborative research in a variety of disciplines and are prepared to become future leaders in scientific advancement.
