College Counseling

Knights Beyond High School...

With a mission rooted in preparing students for success in colleges and universities, the Academy strives to keep pace with the evolving landscape of 21st-century post-secondary education. Upon opening the Senior High School in Fall 2022, our main school counseling and guidance office was relocated to the Senior High School, so our School Counselor can work directly with juniors and seniors as they navigate their educational journey through college/university admissions and enrollment.

Throughout their college selection and enrollment process, JFWA’s counselor meets one-on-one with juniors and seniors on a frequent basis to ensure students are well-versed in applications processes, deadlines, scholarship/financial aid opportunities, and other key aspects of the college enrollment experience.

College Entrance Examinations & Testing

Preparatory materials, exam dates and registration deadlines for college entrance exams (ACT, SAT) are easily accessible at the J. Frank White Academy. Announcements are posted on bulletin boards throughout the building.

PSAT

The school counselor administers the PSAT test in the fall to students in the 10th and 11th grades. Payment of appropriate fees is the responsibility of the student. The PSAT is a preliminary exam for the SAT and is recommended for all juniors as it is used to select National Merit Scholarship finalists.

TCAP

JFWA students are administered the Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP) in the spring of each year in grades 3-8. The TCAP measures progress in math, social studies, English and science. The Academy pays all costs for the TCAP test.

End-of-Course (EOC) Tests

Academy students are required to take End of Course (EOC) tests in Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Biology I, U.S. History, English I, and English II when they are enrolled in those classes.

ASVAB

All 11th graders and any 12th graders who have not previously taken it can take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery if desired. Results are not sent to Armed Services personnel, and there is no cost to students for the test.
