Dr. Shane Apperley joined Lincoln Memorial University School of Medical Sciences in August 2015 as an Assistant Professor for the Physician Assistant program in Harrogate, Tennessee. In August 2018, Apperley accepted the Director of Didactic Education position, and in October 2021, the position of Associate Program Director. Apperley also took over as President and Chair of the LMU Faculty Senate in July 2022. Apperley is an active member of the American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA) and a fellow of the Tennessee Academy of Physician Assistants (TAPA), where he serves as Treasurer and previously CME Committee Chair.

Dr. Apperley’s philosophy about PA education is student-centered. “Students in graduate medical education do not demand perfection. Instead, they yearn for self-knowledge, inspiring role models, real-time feedback, knowledge of how to learn, and a reason (to keep going). In medicine, the reason is simple - to acquire the skills and knowledge to one day earn the right and privilege to provide high quality, patient-centered care to patients.”
