Master of Education Online Degree (MEd)

Lincoln Memorial University's three or four-semester online Masters of Education program will provide you with unique experiences to enrich your abilities as an educator. Our methods are proven to prepare you for the hiring process so you can hit the ground running right after finishing this program. LMU proudly graduates more principals from this program than any other institution in Tennessee. We offer you the option of a traditional schedule or an accelerated course load, depending on your situation and preferences. You'll have the opportunity for mentorship with retired and working administrators and practical learning experiences to help you excel in your coursework. When it's time for exams, our department offers free study sessions so that everyone can prepare as a cohort.

We've designed this program for existing educators and their busy schedules with a flexible online format. As fellow educators, our goal is to provide the foundation for your continued success as an educational leader, mentor, and colleague.

Curriculum and Instruction (CI)

The major in Curriculum and Instruction aims to provide opportunities for you to develop new skills, update knowledge, and engage in professional development as an already working educator. The program will allow you to explore your role as a teacher in a changing society and continue developing your skills in working with school-age students.

Students with this major are typically licensed teachers. This concentration does not lead to any type of licensure. The degree requirements include 33 semester credit hours of successful coursework. A Program of Study must be filed after official written notification of admission to graduate studies has been received.

The Instructional Leadership Licensure Program (IL)

The IL major is right for you if you seek to obtain a leadership license. You will develop leadership skills in an educational environment that focuses on leading and developing teachers at the building or district level. This focus provides the tools needed to increase a teachers' effectiveness, instructional strategies, and student assessment.

The degree requirements include 33 semester credit hours of successful coursework. A Program of Study must be filed after official written notification of admission to graduate studies has been received. The program is designed to license school administrators based on State Board policy and standards. To be eligible for the program, you must have:

  • A valid Tennessee Teacher License
  • State required educational experience
  • Basic computer skills
  • A completed Recommendation for Consideration by a practicing administrator
  • Completed the application process

Educational Leadership (EL)

Please note: the EL program does NOT lead to Initial Tennessee Leadership Licensure.

The EL major is suitable if you already hold Leadership Licensure, live out of state, or are higher education personnel. This program is right for you if you seek improvement with best practices in organizational leadership, innovative strategic school improvement, organizational alignment, and data collection and analysis to improve the overall school community.

The degree requirements include 33 semester credit hours of successful coursework. A Program of Study must be filed after official written notification of admission to graduate studies has been received.
