The Sport and Exercise Science Department provides students with an understanding of the physiological, biomechanical, and psychological effects of exercise on the human body. The Department offers two different majors, each designed to prepare students for a wide range of careers in fast-growing fields of wellness, and fitness.

 

Degrees Offered

The Sport and Exercise Science Department offers Bachelor of Science degrees in:

Both the general and the pre-professional Exercise Science degrees will prepare students to enter the field of Exercise Science. However, the two degree options differ in terms of students' preparation for post-degree programs. Students that plan to attend professional school, such as occupational therapy, should enroll in the General Exercise Science - Pre OTD degree program.

Concentrations

The Department also offers concentrations in Health, Sport Therapy, Athletic Coaching, and Strength and Conditioning.

The Strength and Conditioning concentration is recognized by the National Strength and Conditioning Association and students that complete this concentration are eligible to earn the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist® (CSCS) credential through examination.

The General Exercise Science degree can also be tailored for students to complete the requirements for Physical Assistant Programs.

Guaranteed Professional Admission (GPA) Program

The LMU Guaranteed Professional Admission (GPA Program) is a unique program of Lincoln Memorial University that allows high-achieving, highly motivated high school seniors to earn guaranteed acceptance into one of our professional degree pathways upon successful completion of their Undergraduate degree at LMU. Each professional program has slightly different benchmarks and requirements along the way but is committed to offering successful GPA program participants a head start on their professional education.

The general exercise pre-OTD degree offer incoming freshmen that meet academic qualifications an opportunity 3+3 direct entry pathways to LMU Doctor of Occupational Therapy.

The requirements for this program are outlined below.

  1. High school graduate with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or higher on a 4.0 scale. 
  2. Minimum Math (21) ACT score or minimum Math SAT score of 530.
  3. Students will be required to answer an occupational therapy-focused writing prompt/personal statement.
  4. Two (2) character references from (choose 2 of the following)

Freshmen admitted as BS/OTD students will be granted acceptance into the OTD program upon satisfactory completion of the above requirements. Full acceptance will be granted pending satisfactory completion of the criteria for progression to the Professional OTD Program. Students must also complete LMU's general education core curriculum requirements in addition to the BS requirements to earn a baccalaureate degree in General Exercise at the end of the first year of the OTD program.

 Clubs & Organizations

The Sport and Exercise Science Majors Club offers students multiple ways to develop both socially and professionally with their field of study. Students are encouraged to attend state and regional conferences with instructors, where they can attend lectures, present research, and participate in competitions.
