Dr. Hollis was the originator and long-time program coordinator for AgDiscovery, a national USDA outreach program, which he led for 17 years. His career includes work on the Pan African Rinderpest Campaign based in Nairobi, Kenya—an effort that contributed to the eradication of rinderpest, only the second disease eliminated from the wild after smallpox. Dr. Hollis was a USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) Veterinary Services (VS) field Veterinary Medical Officer for 36 years before retiring in December 2023. He has also chaired regional civil rights and EEO initiatives, earning the Administrator’s Award in 2023. Throughout his career, he has mentored students from diverse backgrounds, including Navajo Technical University interns, and introduced AgDiscovery participants to Cherokee culture in North Carolina.
