TAMPA, Florida, Jan. 28, 2019 – Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) nursing student Margo Ennis of Tampa, Florida, took her last ride as the 2018 Gasparilla Queen in the annual 2019 Seminole Hard Rock Gasparilla Pirate Fest on Saturday, January 26.
Ennis comes from a long line of former Gasparilla royalty. Her grandfather was the 81st king, her mother was the 71st queen and her older sister was the 101st queen. Ennis was crowned in 2018 as the 105th Queen of Gasparilla at the annual Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla Coronation Ball.

During her reign as the 2018 Gasparilla Queen, Ennis enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at the LMU-Caylor School of Nursing (CSON) and began her journey to become a registered nurse (RN).
“I chose LMU because it allowed me to stay close to my family, pursue my nursing career, and be able to participate in all the Gasparilla duties I have had over this past year,” Ennis said.
Ennis also spent her year visiting Tampa General Hospital with other pirates from “the Krewe,” and gave the children in the pediatric ward beads and stuffed pirate animals.
“We took a lot of pictures,” Ennis said. “I also visited a couple of schools in the Tampa Bay Area to say hello to the children get them excited about the next Gasparilla Children’s Parade.”
Ennis has always loved the health care field and found that nursing gave her the most opportunity to pursue what she loved, which was helping others.
“I have loved being able to work with patients almost immediately,” Ennis said. “It gave me this calm feeling that I was right where I belonged.”
LMU’s BSN program prepares nurses to care for individuals, families, community groups and society at any point on the wellness-illness continuum. Ennis would like to stay in Tampa and work for a local hospital, and hopes to one day get her master’s degree.
“I don’t know what field I want to pursue just yet,” Ennis said. “But, I know LMU will prepare me for anything.”
