HARROGATE, Tenn., Oct. 29, 2018 – Lincoln Memorial University-College of Veterinary Medicine (LMU-CVM) Vice President and Dean Jason Johnson served as the keynote speaker and presented on the leadership panel at the 2018 One Health Leadership Experience at the University of Saskatchewan on August 24, 2018, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in Canada. Johnson presented on LMU-CVM’s One Health initiatives and its collaborative efforts with the Center for Animal and Human Health in Appalachia.
One Health is an international movement dedicated to promoting collaboration between all health disciplines to achieve overall health for people, animals and the environment. This event was a three-day workshop that introduced the concept of One Health to university students in health professions programs. Professionals and student leaders joined to promote working locally, nationally and globally for health initiatives. LMU-CVM held a similar event in September which focused on One Health initiatives in Appalachia.
LMU-CVM third-year veterinary students Hailey Watlington and Brittney Beigel also attended the conference and shared their experience in starting the student-led One Health Initiative at LMU. Watlington and Beigel cofounded the LMU One Health Initiative with a mission to foster conversation and understanding of One Health issues. The initiative has provided students with a new platform to informally discuss One Health issues within their degree programs and learn how they can better promote One Health concepts in their community.
