Hoffsis Receives Meritorious Service Award from the American Veterinary Medical Association

Harrogate, Tennessee, September 5, 2018 – Dr. Glen F. Hoffsis, who serves as special assistant to the president for the Lincoln Memorial University-College of Veterinary Medicine (LMU-CVM), received the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Meritorious Service Award at the AVMA Convention 2018 in Denver. The Meritorious Service Award recognizes an AVMA member who has brought honor and distinction to the veterinary profession through personal, professional or community service activities outside organized veterinary medicine and research.

“Dr. Hoffsis has been a part of creating the LMU-CVM vision from its inception. He is a veterinarian who has devoted most of his career to veterinary colleges as a clinician, teacher, researcher and administrator,” said Dr. Jason Johnson, vice president and dean of LMU-CVM. “We are grateful for the vision and dedication he has had for LMU-CVM over the last four years, and I can’t think of a more deserving individual to be recognized for this award.”

Hoffsis served LMU as a consultant throughout the pre-development stage and led the college as its founding dean from 2014 to 2016. He has been instrumental in the growth of LMU-CVM and the building of key partnerships with other organizations including the University of Kentucky. Hoffsis serves an integral role in helping to raise funds and support for the veterinary program and student scholarships at LMU.

Prior to LMU, Hoffsis served as dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Florida and as the dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State University. He has held numerous professional positions including president of the American Association of Bovine Practitioners, chairman of the Food and Drug Administration Center for Veterinary Medicine Advisory Committee and president of the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges. Hoffsis is also a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and has conducted research, given invited talks and published approximately 100 scientific articles. As an active leader in the AVMA, Hoffsis has served on many committees and in several roles for local and state veterinary medical associations. He currently serves as a member of the board of Live Oak Bank and as a member of the board of Ross University.
