Harrogate, Tennessee, February 21, 2018— Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) is committed to providing an excellent student experience. In doing so, the University routinely evaluates academic programs to determine their current and future success. After a lengthy review and careful consideration by University administration, the decision has been made to discontinue five majors currently being offered at LMU. Majors affected by this decision include: organizational learning and leadership; philosophy and religion; music, including music education; athletic training; and health.
LMU will fulfill its commitment to all students currently enrolled in these programs and will continue to offer the courses necessary to complete their degrees.
The decision to end the music major does not affect music ensembles at LMU, including the concert band, the pep band, the Tri-State Community Chorus and other ensembles currently performing. Music faculty will continue to lead these ensembles and preserve the long tradition of excellent music performance at LMU. Likewise, the endowed scholarships that benefit students in these ensembles will continue to be available to assist young musicians in furthering their performance experiences.
