Harrogate, Tennessee, July 12, 2017 —Lincoln Memorial University-College of Veterinary Medicine (LMU-CVM) Vice President and Dean Jason Johnson has appointed Dr. Elizabeth Johnson assistant dean of student success.
“Congruent with our core value of being student-centric, LMU-CVM has created a new position not only to our institution but to veterinary education as a whole; a dean of student success,” said Dr. Jason Johnson. “In this role, the assistant dean will be intently focused on advancing our Doctor of Veterinary Medicine candidates through the curriculum in a highly integrated, holistic fashion.”
In this innovative new position, Dr. Elizabeth Johnson will be responsible for the development of student academic support initiatives and the evaluation and documentation of the effectiveness of those activities. The creation of this new administrative position demonstrates the University’s commitment to student success. Dr. Elizabeth Johnson will coordinate with the associate dean of academic affairs and academic departments, including outcomes assessment, exam services and academic support and counseling, to develop individualized student success plans and identify, support and implement new initiatives aimed at student success. Additionally, Dr. Elizabeth Johnson will work with faculty to develop and deliver classes, workshops and seminars geared toward North American Veterinary Licensing Exam (NAVLE) success, both in the preclinical and clinical years.
Dr. Elizabeth Johnson is a graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. She has worked in private practice at the Champions Forest Animal Clinic in Houston, Texas, for the past year. The small animal practice serves a diverse population of pet owners and is the exclusive veterinary partner of Lone Star Boxer Rescue, which rehabilitates and sterilizes at-risk boxers in the greater southeast Texas area. She holds a bachelor of science in animal science from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where she also completed a graduate assistantship in the office of undergraduate admissions.
“I am delighted to welcome Dr. Elizabeth Johnson to our faculty to fulfill this very important role. I like to think of this person as the Jedi Knight for student success,” Dr. Jason Johnson said. “She has already established herself as a thoughtful leader in the veterinary profession, and this position will provide a perfect platform to create relevant, dynamic programming geared toward success of our students.”
“The assistant dean of student success is a truly innovative position. I am called to its mission and I am excited to take on this challenge,” Dr. Elizabeth Johnson said. “I intend to contribute to the sustainability of this profession by helping to produce self-aware, strong veterinarians who can conquer the issues that lie ahead and protect the human-animal bond.”
