Hess Finalizes Cabinet with Vice President Appointments

Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) President-Elect E. Clayton Hess has finalized his cabinet by appointing Dr. James Hurley, Dr. Amiel Jarstfer and Dr. Travis Wright to vice president positions to take effect July 1, 2017.

Hurley, who currently serves as dean of LMU’s School of Business and as a professor of leadership and education policy, has been appointed vice president of enrollment, athletics and public relations. He will oversee LMU’s undergraduate enrollment operations, intercollegiate athletic department and direct the University’s external outreach through the department of public relations and marketing. Hurley joined LMU in 2015 after serving as president at the University of Pikeville in Pikeville, Kentucky. Hurley holds a doctor of education in higher education administration from Morehead State University in Morehead, Kentucky.

 

Jarstfer, who currently serves as dean of LMU’s School of Mathematics and Sciences and as professor of biology, has been appointed vice president for academic affairs. He will oversee the University’s operations pertaining to undergraduate and post-graduate academic programs and will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of the University’s academic vision. Jarstfer joined the LMU faculty in 2010 and has over 25 years of teaching experience. He holds a PhD in plant pathology from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida.

 

 

Wright, who currently serves as assistant vice president for academic affairs and oversees the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, has been appointed vice president for academic and student support services. In his new position, Wright will oversee the support areas that are vital to student success at LMU. Academic and student support services offers a myriad of resources designed to assist LMU students in pursuing their academic and personal aspirations. Wright joined the LMU administration in 2014 after a tenure as vice president for academic affairs at Louisiana College in Pineville, Louisiana. Wright holds a PhD in Christian education from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in New Orleans, Louisiana.

 

Hess has also appointed Dr. Jody Goins as assistant vice president for academic support. Goins currently serves as special assistant for academic affairs. He joined the administration at LMU in 2015 after serving in leadership roles in public education in the Oak Ridge, Knox County and Claiborne County school systems. Goins holds an educational doctorate in executive leadership from LMU.

The LMU Board of Trustees unanimously voted to appoint Hess as the University’s 21st president in November. He will be transitioning from his current position as vice president for academic affairs and provost to the presidency on July 1, 2017 and will be inaugurated during the University’s homecoming celebration on October 13, 2017.

Hurley, Jarstfer and Wright will complete the University’s President’s Cabinet, which includes all vice presidents as well as in-house legal counsel. The body serves as an advisory group to the President that develops actionable recommendations on topics of university-wide and strategic importance.
