Harrogate, Tennessee, April 12, 2017—The Lincoln Memorial University-Paul V. Hamilton School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences and The LMU Players will stage a production of Fiddler on the Roof April 20-22 in the Sam and Sue Mars Performing Arts Center in the Duke Hall of Citizenship on the LMU main campus in Harrogate, Tennessee.
Fiddler on the Roof is a beloved musical that centers on Tevye, the father of five daughters, and his attempts to maintain his Jewish religious and cultural traditions as outside influences encroach on his family’s lives. He must cope with the strong-willed actions of his three older daughters, who wish to marry for love. It seems each one’s choice of a husband moves further away from the customs of his faith. The play is based on Sholem Aleichem stories by special permission of Arnold Perl and is written by Joseph Stein with music by Jerry Bock and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick. The original New York stage production was directed and choreographed by Jerome Robbins.
The LMU Players production is directed by Joe Powell with technical and stage design by Dr. Joe Gill, assistant professor of theatre at LMU and music direction by Dr. James McAllister, assistant director of music.
The cast includes LMU students and community members. Caleb Knisley, of Jefferson City, Tennessee, will take on the role of the patriarch, Tevya, while Leah Colwell, of Newport, Tennessee, will play his sharp-tongued wife, Golde. Tevya’s daughters will be portrayed by Emma Henderson, of Knoxville, as Tzeitel; Petchula Ford, of Hartford, Tennessee, as Hodel; Laura Beth Rice, of Lebanon, Kentucky, as Chava; Cora Capps, of Middlesboro, Kentucky; as Shpritze; and Anna Graham, of Harrogate, Tennessee, as Bielke.
