The Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) chapter of Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society was awarded a $500 community service project grant and hosted a Halloween Book or Treat fundraiser to add to the donation total for the library at the newly built Candy’s Creek Cherokee Elementary School in Cleveland, Tennessee.

Sigma Tau Delta's project grants are designed to encourage local chapters to be innovative in developing projects that further the goals of the Society and support local chapter activities, and chapters are encouraged to explore ways to use project grants in combination with funds secured from other sources. The elementary school will receive $500 plus the money raised by the students. For Book or Treat, students wrapped donated mystery and science fiction novels and sold them on the campus Quad.

Sigma Tau Delta members who helped with the fundraiser include William Gross, Gabrielle Chumley, Kalie Rich, and Samantha Brown. Students involved in the spring semester were Cierra Davis, Kaylee Stone, Kaitlin Daugherty, Kristyn Kelly, and Kennedy Buechner.

Sigma Tau Delta was founded in 1924 at Dakota Wesleyan University. The Society strives to confer distinction for high achievement in English language and literature in undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies; provide, through its local chapters, cultural stimulation on college campuses and promote interest in literature and the English language in surrounding communities; foster all aspects of the discipline of English, including literature, language, and writing; promote exemplary character and good fellowship among its members; exhibit high standards of academic excellence; and serve society by fostering literacy.

With over 900 active chapters located in the United States and abroad, there are more than 1,000 faculty advisors, and approximately 9,000 members inducted annually. Sigma Tau Delta also recognizes the accomplishments of professional writers who have contributed to the fields of language and literature.
