LMU MSCJ Ranked Among Best Online Programs in U.S.
The Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) Online Master of Science in Criminal Justice degree is featured in the 2021 U.S. News & World Report Best Online Programs rankings released this week.
“The Master of Science in Criminal Justice program at LMU had its inception in 2015, steadily growing to become one of the most attractive programs in Tennessee,” said Dr. Martin Sellers, dean of the Paul V. Hamilton School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. “Its distinctives include full-time student completion in 16 months, fully online classes, no standardized test requirement, low cost, and close ties to the Duncan School of Law. We are proud of our commitment to students who choose to improve their learning in the field of criminal justice and criminology, particularly at a time when there has been increasing analysis and review of the US criminal justice system.”
LMU Master of Science in Criminal Justice degree ranked No. 59 (tied with 15 other programs) based on calculation by U.S. News in the areas of engagement, faculty credentials and training, services and technologies, expert opinion, and student excellence. This marks LMU’s first entry on the criminal justice programs list.
LMU’s Master of Science in Criminal Justice program has been designed for working professionals and is delivered entirely online. Requiring the completion of 30 credit hours, the program can be completed in as little as 16 months. Candidates can specialize with tracks in administration, applied professional and research. The program prepares students for leadership roles in criminal justice organizations or further study in the field of criminal justice. Successful candidates will demonstrate proficiency in theories of crime and justice, justice ethics, scientific research methodology, policy analysis and leadership.
Especially in 2020, online learning offered students continuity, a chance to finish the semester wherever they were as colleges closed dorms and emptied campuses. Such disruptions, however, were likely limited for online programs, such as those ranked in the 2021 U.S. News Best Online Programs, where the vast majority of coursework is delivered in an online format. Online degree programs are a sector that higher education experts see poised for further growth even once the dust from COVID-19 settles.
With the future seemingly bright for online education, the 2021 edition marks 10 consecutive years that U.S. News has ranked the Best Online Programs. In addition to online bachelor's degrees, U.S. News ranked master's programs in business, education, nursing, engineering, computer information technology and criminal justice. U.S. News has once again expanded the rankings to its largest number yet, with 1,641 programs assessed. These rankings do not include degree programs that were delivered temporarily online in 2020 as many colleges shifted to remote instruction.
