Economist and researcher brings expertise in quantitative analysis, machine learning and data-driven decision-making
As data and technology continue to reshape the business world, Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) is strengthening its expertise in business analytics with the addition of Dr. Patricia Hummel as assistant professor in the School of Business. Hummel brings a background in economics and quantitative research, with a focus on connecting analytical concepts to real-world business challenges.
Hummel earned her Ph.D. in Economics from Middle Tennessee State University in 2026 and brings teaching experience from both Middle Tennessee State University and the University of Maine. Her academic background includes econometric analysis, machine learning and financial analysis, with applications in data-driven decision-making across a variety of industries.
Her research interests span public policy, education policy, agricultural economics and financial literacy, reflecting the wide-ranging applications of economic research. These areas highlight how quantitative analysis can be used to examine issues affecting businesses, individuals and communities.
"I'm grateful for the opportunity to join the LMU School of Business and contribute to the work being done to prepare students for today's business environment," said Dr. Hummel. "What makes business analytics so valuable is its application across industries and disciplines. I look forward to bringing my background in economics and quantitative research into the classroom and helping students see how these skills can be applied to real-world challenges."
"The strength of our School of Business is reflected in the people who teach, mentor and challenge our students," said Dr. Kelsey Metz, dean of the LMU School of Business. "We're committed to building a faculty with diverse perspectives and areas of expertise, and Dr. Hummel's appointment is another step in strengthening the academic experience we provide."
