The Lincoln Memorial University Health Sciences Center for Interprofessional Education and Simulation (CIPES) has been granted accreditation in the area of Teaching/Education by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH), one of the highest recognitions in simulation-based health care education. The accreditation is effective through Dec. 31, 2031.
SSH and the Council for Accreditation of Healthcare Simulation Programs completed a comprehensive review of the LMU Health Sciences Center for Interprofessional Education and Simulation, including an extensive application process and on-site evaluation. SSH's Board of Review determined that LMU's program met the rigorous standards required for accreditation in simulation education.
"Securing a full five-year accreditation from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare validates our commitment to educational excellence at Lincoln Memorial University," said Dr. Sherry Jimenez, chief accreditation and integration officer. "This success is a testament to our health profession program stakeholders utilizing these spaces and pursuing SSH guidelines as the gold standard. It ensures our students and clinical partners train within a world-class learning environment built entirely around patient safety."
The accreditation recognizes the quality, effectiveness and continuous improvement of LMU's simulation-based educational programs, which support students and health care professionals across multiple disciplines. Through immersive learning experiences, simulation training allows learners to develop clinical skills, strengthen interprofessional collaboration and improve patient care in realistic clinical environments.
According to SSH reviewers, the LMU Health Sciences Center for Interprofessional Education and Simulation demonstrated significant institutional support, strong collaboration among campuses and a strategic commitment to advancing health care simulation education. Reviewers highlighted the program's leadership, resources and dedication to preparing future health care professionals through innovative and evidence-based learning experiences.
The center provides simulation training and assessment opportunities for learners across LMU's health professions programs, including medicine, physician assistant studies, nursing, occupational therapy and physical therapy. Over the past two years, the program delivered more than 72,000 learner contact hours through simulation activities designed to enhance clinical competence and patient safety.
The accreditation reinforces LMU's position as a national leader in health professions education and reflects the university's ongoing commitment to preparing highly skilled health care providers who are ready to serve communities across the region and beyond.
