Lincoln Memorial University has named Corey Russell dean of students, elevating a dedicated educator, advisor and mentor to a leadership role focused on student success, engagement and belonging.
Russell assumed the position July 1, 2026, after serving as a professional advisor at LMU since February 2025. In his new role, he provides leadership for programs and services that support students throughout their university experience while helping foster a strong and connected campus community.
A Claiborne County native, Russell brings a deep understanding of the region and the students LMU serves. He earned degrees from both Tusculum University and LMU before spending nine years as a teacher in Claiborne County schools. Throughout his career, he has remained committed to helping students identify opportunities, overcome challenges and achieve their goals.
"Corey has dedicated his career to helping students recognize their potential and achieve their goals," said Dr. Christopher Stotts, assistant vice president for student success. "Mr. Russell brings a strong commitment to student success, a collaborative leadership style and a deep understanding of the needs of our students. I am confident that he will provide thoughtful and effective leadership in his role as dean of students as he advances the mission of LMU through strengthening the sense of community and student belonging across our campus."
Russell said he looks forward to supporting students and working alongside campus partners to create an exceptional student experience.
"I am so honored and humbled to be named dean of students," Russell said. "This is a privilege and responsibility to serve our students that I do not take lightly. I am so thankful for the trust and confidence placed in me to help lead our students in realizing their fullest potential. I look forward to working with all of my campus partners to ensure the best experience possible for our students and to continuing the mission of LMU day-in and day-out!"
Russell brings a record of achievement both inside and outside the classroom. As a student-athlete at Tusculum University, he earned All-American honors, was named South Atlantic Conference Athlete of the Year in 2008 and became a finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy. He later earned induction into both the South Atlantic Conference Hall of Fame and the Tusculum University Sports Hall of Fame. He is currently completing a Master of Business Administration in Strategic Management.
For LMU, Russell's appointment reflects the University's continued commitment to investing in the student experience. His background as an educator, advisor and mentor positions him to help students build meaningful connections, access support resources and succeed throughout their time at the University.
