Dean, Dr. Martin Sellars, has made a significant impact on Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) and the surrounding region through his leadership of the Paul V. Hamilton School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (AHSS).
Since arriving at LMU in 2003, Sellars has worked to support the academic and professional success of students, particularly within the Communication and Media program.
One of the most notable accomplishments during his tenure was the expansion of academic programs. Enrollment and faculty participation in the Communication and Media program increased dramatically. Fewer than five students were enrolled when Sellars arrived; the program has since grown and is expected to become one of the largest majors within the school.
“As a leader, I believe what we do here is a diamond in the rough,” Sellars said. “We have programs that are creating pathways for students to find meaningful careers and improve society.”
Sellars encouraged students to stay informed about current events by following news coverage and engaging with public issues. He emphasized that real-world events can enhance classroom learning, particularly in communication studies, while strengthening critical thinking skills.
Faculty members noted that while the school has made strong progress, additional emphasis could be placed on highlighting student achievements.
Since LMU’s founding in 1897, the university has contributed to economic and educational growth in the region. Continued program development within the Hamilton School has supported that mission by promoting student success and regional advancement.
