Meet the Heart of LMU: Daniel Hicks

Daniel Hicks

This quarter, Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) is excited to shine the Employee Spotlight on Daniel Hicks. Daniel began working at LMU in July 2016 and now serves as the university’s senior audio-visual technician, helping keep the technology that powers our campus running every day.

Daniel started his LMU journey as a student worker. He learned the ropes, built his skills and earned a full-time position. Nearly a decade later, he’s a leader in the same department he got his start.

On any given day, Daniel supports audio-visual equipment across campus. He maintains classroom technology, assists with sports broadcasting equipment and helps keep LMU’s radio station on the air. He also works alongside vendors and teammates on construction and renovation projects to ensure new classroom technology is installed correctly and ready for faculty and students.

Daniel holds himself to a high standard.

“Things need to be done right, and I don’t want to put my name on poor work,” he said.

That commitment to quality directly impacts the student experience by creating reliable, engaging learning environments across campus. He’s even working to expand his already wide skillset by learning programming during his free time.

Outside of work, Daniel enjoys running and writing. He has written a self-help book and is currently working to get it published. He is also learning to play the piano and enjoys trying new things whenever he can.

Recently, Daniel has also been navigating a significant personal challenge. He is living with stage 5 kidney failure and recently began dialysis. Despite the demands of ongoing treatments, he continues to bring the same commitment and determination to his work at LMU. Daniel is currently exploring kidney donor options and remains hopeful as he moves forward. Readers can learn more about becoming a living kidney donor through Vanderbilt Health at https://www.vanderbilthealth.com/program/kidney-transplant-living-donor.

“Everyone here is super friendly, and the work ethic for people at LMU goes far beyond what I have seen at any other place of work,” said Daniel.

Through his dedication and constant drive to improve, he plays an essential role in supporting LMU’s mission every day. Daniel leads by example, reflecting the same strong work ethic and commitment he admires in the LMU community.
