Brent Jones Joins DSOL Faculty

Brent Jones

The Lincoln Memorial University Duncan School of Law (LMU Law) has announced that Brent Jones will join the faculty as a visiting assistant professor of law.

Jones has served as an adjunct professor of Trial Advocacy at LMU Law since 2019, bringing extensive real-world litigation experience into the classroom. In his new role as a full-time faculty member, he will continue to support the law school’s mission of preparing practice-ready attorneys through experiential and skills-based legal education.

Jones most recently served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Tennessee, where he prosecuted federal cases involving drug trafficking, firearms offenses, and money laundering. Throughout his career at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, he worked closely with federal and state law enforcement agencies and secured numerous indictments and jury trial convictions in federal court.

In addition to his federal service, Jones has an extensive background in military law through the United States Air Force Judge Advocate General’s Corps. During his active-duty career, he served in multiple prosecutorial and leadership roles, including chief senior trial counsel, where he oversaw complex courts-martial and supervised other prosecutors. He currently serves in the United States Air Force Reserve with the Office of Special Trial Counsel.

Jones earned his Juris Doctor from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

At LMU Law, Jones will continue to bring his extensive courtroom and prosecutorial experience to students as they develop the advocacy and litigation skills needed for successful legal careers.

“We are fortunate to have a lawyer and educator with Brent’s depth of experience joining our full-time faculty,” said Matt Lyon, vice president and dean of LMU Law. “Our Trial Advocacy students have benefited for years from the expertise Brent has gained through many years of public service as an Air Force JAG and Assistant U.S. Attorney. We are excited for him to have an even broader impact on our students in this new role.”

The Lincoln Memorial University Duncan School of Law is in Knoxville’s Historic Old City Hall Building. LMU Law is an integral part of LMU’s values-based learning community and is dedicated to preparing the next generation of lawyers to provide sound legal service in the region of Appalachia and beyond.
