Dr. R. Christopher Yonts Appointed Assistant Dean of Clinical Medicine at LMU-DCOM

Dr. R. Chris Yonts

Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM) has appointed R. Christopher Yonts, D.O., as Assistant Dean of Clinical Medicine for the Harrogate campus. Yonts also serves as Associate Professor of Family Medicine and Director of Clinical Distance Learning.

 

In his new role, Yonts provides leadership for the clinical curriculum for OMS-I and OMS-II students, coordinating early clinical education, skills development, and the integration of osteopathic principles across the preclinical curriculum while supporting faculty and student success.

 

Yonts teaching LMU-DCOM students“I am passionate about investing in students and helping them develop into competent, confident, and compassionate physicians,” said Yonts. “Teaching and mentorship have always been the most meaningful parts of my career, and I look forward to expanding those opportunities in my new role by supporting our learners and faculty and strengthening clinical education for the next generation of osteopathic physicians.”

 

Yonts earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Pikeville College School of Osteopathic Medicine (now the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine) and his Bachelor of Science in Biology from LMU. He completed his osteopathic rotating internship and family medicine residency at the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine in Knoxville and is board certified by both the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians and the American Board of Family Medicine.

 

Since joining LMU-DCOM in 2009, Yonts has held numerous academic and leadership roles, including Chair of Family Medicine and Director of Clinical Distance Learning. He previously served as Medical Director of the University Medical Clinic system and brings broad clinical experience in family medicine, emergency medicine, hospital medicine, and long-term care. A dedicated educator and leader, Yonts remains committed to advancing osteopathic medical education and mentoring future physicians.

 

With nearly two decades of service to LMU-DCOM and a deep understanding of both clinical practice and academic leadership, Yonts is well positioned to continue strengthening the college’s clinical foundation. His experience, steady leadership, and commitment to student development will further support LMU-DCOM’s mission of preparing skilled, compassionate osteopathic physicians to serve communities in need.
