Dr. Ryan Overton Receives Statewide Engineering Educator Award

Dr. Ryan Overton, dean of the Lincoln Memorial University School of Engineering, received the Peter G. Hoadley Award for Outstanding Engineering Educator during the 2026 American Society of Civil Engineers Tennessee State Section Meeting.

 

The Peter G. Hoadley Award was instituted by the Tennessee Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers in 2004 with Hoadley serving as the first recipient. The award is presented each year to an engineering educator member of the Tennessee Section who has made definite contributions to the education process and to the society at the national, section, or branch levels.

 

Overton was first selected by the ASCE Knoxville Branch for the Edwin Burdette Award for Outstanding Engineering Education. That recognition advanced to the state level, where he received the statewide honor.

 

Faculty and students from LMU participated in the annual ASCE Tennessee State Section Meeting. TheSchool of Engineering Students and Facult meeting brings together civil engineering professionals and students from across the state for a day of learning, networking, and recognition of outstanding service and achievement. The meeting also offers opportunities for licensed professionals to earn professional development hours while attending sessions focused on current work and emerging practices in civil and environmental engineering, transportation, structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, and engineering management.

 

School of Engineering StudentsRepresenting LMU were Overton and civil engineering students Hailey Brock, Waylon Ball, Parker Meldrum, and Holt Hensley. Students participated in hands-on challenges, including a small structures project and a geotechnical project which were designed to promote teamwork and practical problem-solving skills.

 

LMU congratulates Overton on this statewide honor and commends the students who represented the program at the professional gathering. Participation in ASCE events supports LMU’s commitment to preparing future engineers through real-world exposure to professional practice, networking and leadership development.
