Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) mourns the passing of Roger A. Ball, a member of the LMU Board of Trustees and a longtime civic and business leader in Claiborne County, Tennessee.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 29, 3 to 7 p.m. at the Claiborne-Overholt Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, Jan. 30, 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel, with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Ball, a lifelong resident of Claiborne County, joined the LMU Board of Trustees in 2016 and served on the board’s Properties and Athletics committees. He was deeply committed to student success and made a lasting impact through his support of scholarships, athletics and other initiatives.
A 1966 graduate of LMU, Ball earned a degree in business administration before completing a master’s degree in distributive education and marketing in 1970 at the University of Tennessee. He began his career in education, serving as cooperative education coordinator and later as director of vocational education for the Claiborne County school system.
Ball later devoted his professional life to business, including leadership roles with Ball Realty and Auction Company, Ball Construction Company and other ventures. He also served for 36 years on the Powell Valley Electric Cooperative board of directors, retiring as board president in 2024, and was a former chairman of the board at Citizens Bank.
Throughout his life, Ball was active in organizations focused on economic and community development, including the Clinch Powell River Valley Association, Claiborne County Chamber of Commerce, Claiborne County Planning Commission, Claiborne County Industrial Development Board, Workforce Investment Board and the Lions Club.
