The Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) School of Business has published the Advances in Business Education (ABE) Conference Proceedings 2025, now available through the LMU Institutional Repository and soon to be indexed on Google Scholar.
The inaugural ABE Conference welcomed more than 75 participants, including faculty, students, and scholars from multiple institutions. The event was organized around three program tracks: Pedagogy and Teaching Excellence, Business Research, and Student Research.
“We are thrilled to share the published proceedings from the inaugural ABE Conference,” said Dr. Kelsey Metz, dean of the LMU School of Business. “This collection reflects the dedication of faculty and scholars who are committed to advancing teaching excellence, research, and student engagement. I am proud of the collaborative spirit that defined the 2025 event and look forward to building on this momentum as we prepare for next year’s conference.”
Best in Track Awards were presented to three contributors whose work exemplified innovation and excellence in business education:
Pedagogy & Teaching Excellence: Leveraging AI for Instructional Design: Strategies for Engaging Students by Dr. Jake Simms. His presentation examined how artificial intelligence tools, such as ChatGPT, can be utilized to design personalized and engaging assignments, enhance student motivation, and support real-world problem-solving.
Business Research: Assessing the Impact of Internal Revenue Code Amendments on IRS-Estimated Tax Return Preparation Time by Dr. Christi Sayles. This study analyzed two decades of tax code amendments, finding that legislative changes did not significantly increase taxpayer compliance time as often assumed.
Student Research: The Technology Organizational Environment (TOE) Model’s Evolution and Application to Small Businesses by Ms. Jenae Mattike. This project explored how small businesses adopt new technologies, emphasizing organizational and environmental factors that impact success and competitiveness.
The conference also featured keynote speaker Dr. Laura Morrow, senior director of the Center for Teaching and Learning and associate professor of management at Lipscomb University, who addressed strategies for advancing faculty development and student success.
The ABE Conference reflects the LMU School of Business’s mission to serve the Appalachian region by fostering academic inquiry, advancing innovative pedagogy, and promoting community-engaged scholarship.
The event was made possible through the support of generous sponsors, including LMU alumnus Mike Dean (Class of 1978), Bodyswaps, Pearson, and Cengage, as well as the dedication of the conference planning committee and LMU administration.
