Lincoln Memorial University has named its Harrogate-based Physician Assistant (PA) program in honor of Dr. James A. Jordan, a distinguished alumnus, physician, and longtime university trustee whose decades of service have helped shape the institution’s growth in health sciences.

The Dr. James A. Jordan Physician Assistant School is located on the fourth floor of the LMU-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (DCOM) building. The dedication ceremony recognized Jordan’s lifetime of achievement in medicine and his enduring support of LMU’s mission.

Jordan, a native of Tell City, Indiana, graduated magna cum laude from LMU in 1955 before earning his medical degree from Indiana University in 1959. He went on to serve as Chief of Psychiatry in multiple hospital systems and held leadership roles in both state and national medical associations. For two decades, he also served as team psychiatrist for the Miami Dolphins.

“Dr. Jordan exemplifies the values of service, excellence, and leadership that LMU strives to instill in every student,” said LMU President Jason McConnell during the ceremony. “His impact on the medical field and his steadfast commitment to LMU are truly remarkable.”

Jordan has been a member of the LMU Board of Trustees since 1991. He and his wife, Janet, established the Jim and Janet Jordan Endowed Scholarship for Academically Gifted Athletes in 1997, continuing a legacy of giving back that has benefited generations of LMU students.

The dedication ceremony featured remarks from McConnell, Board Chairman Dr. Autry O.V. “Pete” DeBusk, and LMU-School of Medical Sciences Dean Paula Miksa, as well as a plaque unveiling by Mrs. Janet Jordan.

The event was held during LMU Homecoming, which took place on Saturday, Oct. 11, and included a series of campus celebrations honoring alumni, students and friends of the university.
