LMU-DCOM Student Nicolette Overton Selected for National Leadership Role with American Academy of Pediatrics

Nicolette Overton

Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM) third-year student Nicolette Overton, OMS-III, has been selected to serve a two-year term on the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Section on Pediatric Trainees (SOPT) Leadership Council.

Overton’s term will begin September 28, 2025, and conclude October 16, 2027. During her first year, she will serve as the Medical Student Assistant District Representative for District 4, followed by a second year as District Representative.

In this leadership role, Overton will work with 12 medical schools and their delegates across District 4 to elevate student concerns at Medical Student Committee meetings, report on district activities during calls and contribute to the SOPT District eNewsletter. She will also participate in district and national advocacy efforts, take part in leadership development training and vote on AAP resolutions that help determine the Academy’s key priorities.

“I’m most excited to expand my knowledge of advocacy tools and resources, so that I’m prepared to make a difference in the lives of my fellow pediatric trainees and the children and families they serve,” Overton said.

Through her involvement, Overton has already connected with District 4 members and AAP leadership from across the country at the national conference in Denver. She looks forward to building additional relationships through strategic workgroups and councils during her term.

LMU-DCOM prepares future physicians to serve and lead in their communities, and Overton’s selection reflects the college’s commitment to developing advocates for patients and the profession alike.
