Symposium on Special Education Set for October 4 at LMU-Cedar Bluff

The Lincoln Memorial University Carter & Moyers School of Education will host its annual Fall LMU Symposium on Special Education on Saturday, Oct. 4, at LMU-Cedar Bluff, 421 Park 40 North Blvd in Knoxville.

 

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. and will offer six hours of professional development credit for attendees. The symposium is designed to benefit parents, advocates, special educators, general educators, and school administrators, providing timely information and tools to support diverse learners.

 

“This symposium reflects LMU’s commitment to inclusive education and ongoing support for educators and families navigating the complexities of special education,” said Dr. Chessica Cave, interim dean of the LMU Carter & Moyers School of Education. “We are proud to bring together experts, practitioners and community members to share knowledge, build networks, and advance the success of all students.”

 

The symposium will feature breakout sessions, guest speakers, and panel discussions on topics relevant to today’s special education landscape. Topics may include Special topics: Tennessee Law Updates on Student Restraining, The Steps of IEP Development, Trauma and Social/Emotional Learning, Dyslexia and RTI, Discipline for Students with an IEP, Special Education: A Parents View, LRE and the Law, and Child Find: How to Access Resources. Keynote presentation- Status of Special Education Law Issues 2025- Caitlin Burchette, Esq. Parent Panel: Concerns and Interactions with School Districts - Cortney Piper et al.
