Lincoln Memorial University’s (LMU) Student Support Services (SSS) program has been awarded a five-year federal grant from the U.S. Department of Education, with first-year funding set at $348,510.
The SSS program provides academic and support services to low-income, first-generation, and disabled college students, with the goal of increasing retention and graduation rates. It also fosters an institutional climate that supports the success of these students, according to LMU officials.
“The program serves 165 qualified students at the Harrogate campus by providing scholarships, study skills, academic advisement, career and personal counseling, tutorial services, assistance in securing admission and financial aid for graduate and professional programs, academic enrichment activities, mentoring services, and financial literacy skills at no cost to the students,” said Lila Combs, program director.
Combs added that the SSS program has provided valuable services to LMU students for many years. “The SSS program is an excellent way for students to receive support services and help them make the transition to college life a successful one,” she said.
The SSS program is funded through the U.S. Department of Education’s TRIO Programs, which are designed to assist students from disadvantaged backgrounds in progressing through the academic pipeline from middle school to post-baccalaureate programs.
