Seventeen physician assistant students and three faculty members from the Lincoln Memorial University-School of Medical Sciences recently returned from a medical mission trip to Warsaw, Poland.

The team, part of LMU’s physician assistant program based in Harrogate, partnered with International Medical Relief to provide hands-on healthcare services to communities affected by the ongoing conflict in Eastern Europe.

During the trip, the group delivered essential medical care, health education and basic supplies to individuals and families displaced by the war between Russia and Ukraine. They also distributed hygiene items and donated gifts collected through contributions from the LMU community.

Dr. Paula Miksa, dean of LMU-SMS, joined the trip and commended the students for their dedication and professionalism.

“Our students handled themselves with an incredible level of professionalism, maturity and care,” Miksa said. “They truly represented LMU with excellence, and I couldn’t be more proud of the work they did or the impact they made.”

The trip reflects LMU’s commitment to service learning and global health. It gave students an opportunity to apply clinical skills in a real-world setting while gaining experience in cultural sensitivity and patient-centered care.

The School of Medical Sciences, established in 2019, houses LMU’s physician assistant program with a primary care focus in Harrogate, a surgical focus program in Knoxville, the online Doctor of Medical Science program and the Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science program. The school supports LMU’s mission to serve Appalachia and other underserved areas through quality medical education and student success.
