Golden Scalpel Golf Tournament Swings Big to Support LMU-DCOM Students

The Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM) hosted the 17th Annual Golden Scalpel Golf Tournament on Monday, April 28, welcoming 112 players to the scenic Woodlake Golf and Lodge in Tazewell, Tennessee.

golferThe tournament began years ago as a student club initiative. Since then, it has grown into one of LMU-DCOM’s premier fundraising events that unites community partners, alumni and local businesses in support of osteopathic medical students. Proceeds from the tournament have directly contributed to student scholarships, emergency assistance and research opportunities. The tournament funds an endowed scholarship, which has now surpassed $100,000 and continues to grow thanks to the generosity of its supporters.

“We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the Golden Scalpel golf tournament,” said Bridgette Welch, Director of Development for Health Sciences. “Our business and community partners made this event possible and helped us achieve our goals. The volunteers’ hard work ensures we have a smooth day. We could not do this event without the help of our DCOM and University Advancement teams. Lastly, the players make this such a great day. We love seeing you have fun and enjoying your time with us. We would like to thank Woodlake Golf Club for providing such a beautiful venue and course. We look forward to seeing everyone at the event in 2026.”

The 2025 tournament drew support from local businesses, alumni and sponsors, many of whom fielded teams or funded student participation. The goal for future tournaments is to host up to 40 teams as the event continues to grow and expand its impact.
