Lincoln Memorial University-Richard A. Gillespie College of Veterinary Medicine (LMU-CVM) recently served as the host site for the American Pre-Veterinary Medical Association (APVMA) Symposium, attracting more than 400 students from 58 colleges and universities across the country.
The two-day event brought together 438 students and 22 advisors for a series of hands-on labs, lectures, panels, and networking opportunities. Attendees explored topics related to veterinary school admissions, professional development, and emerging areas in animal health.
Keynote speakers included Dr. Jennifer Quammen, former vice president of the American Veterinary Medical Association; Dr. Brigette Dean-Hines, owner of Derby City Vet; and Dr. Cortney Curtis, associate professor of veterinary medicine at LMU-CVM. Each speaker shared insights into the veterinary profession and offered guidance to students preparing for veterinary school.
The symposium also featured an awards ceremony, scholarship presentations, and elections for the APVMA National Executive Board. Veterinary schools and industry organizations participated in tabling expos, giving students a chance to learn more about admissions requirements, career paths, and educational resources.
“The APVMA Symposium is an important event for students exploring a future in veterinary medicine,” said Dr. Stacy Anderson, dean of LMU-CVM. “It connects them with the people, tools, and knowledge that can shape their journey.”
