LMU-DCOM Honors Anatomical Donors at Memorial Service

The Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM) hosted its annual Donor Memorial Service on April 13 at the Harrogate campus. 

“Each year, the LMU-DCOM Anatomical Donation Program honors our gracious donors and their final act of service to health professional education and research during the Donor Memorial Service,” said Dr. Adam Kolatorowicz, executive director of the anatomical donation program. 

During the two years each donor is part of the anatomy program, LMU trains nearly 1,000 future physicians, 400 Physician Assistants, more than 150 Doctors of Physical Therapy, 150 Doctors of Occupational Therapy, 160 Doctors of Dental Medicine and 100 science graduate students, including PhDs and Masters of Anatomy.  

Students shared how the important gift of donorship impacted both the Anatomical Donation Program and their personal journeys to becoming a healthcare professional. Following the service, family members were encouraged to meet the students and learn more about the impact their loved ones have made on the next generation of healthcare professionals.  

In addition to LMU-DCOM student doctors, several other programs at LMU use the anatomy lab including Physician Assistant, Doctor of Occupational Therapy, Doctor of Physical Therapy, Doctor of Dental Medicine, Doctorate of Anatomical Education, Master of Science and undergraduate/high school dual enrollment programs.  

The Donor Memorial Service underscores the core values of the LMU-DCOM Anatomical Donation Program of Respect: Treat donors and their families with care and reverence, Integrity: Adhere to the highest legal and ethical standards, and Professionalism: Follow professional codes of conduct governing health care, education and research.
