Cosby Inducted Into LMU Literary Hall of Fame

Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) is pleased to announce the induction of Marty Cosby, B'81, EdD'16, into the LMU Literary Hall of Fame.

Cosby is a retired educator who served the Claiborne County, Tennessee, school system throughout his entire career. As a principal and instructional leader, Cosby was recognized at the local and state levels for his leadership and positive student outcomes. In addition to degrees in education, he earned a Doctor of Theology from Bethany College in 1987 and has served as an adult Sunday school teacher and deacon for many years. Cosby has authored numerous study guides and lessons for the Southern Baptist Association.

It was his own experiences in the school system that prompted him to write his first book after he retired. In 2021, “Three Dead Horses: Giving God the Reins” hit bookshelves and gained much attention including a place on Amazon’s Best Seller list for Christian Self Help. The book is a first-hand account of how small-town politics and corruption threaten a community’s way of life, but more importantly, it is a story of God’s love, mercy and guidance. Cosby shares the lessons God taught him and how He blessed his family and him in the presence of his enemies.

Earlier in 2022, Cosby released two other books. “Removing The Blinders: Three Dead Horses” is a follow-up to his first book and a six-session Bible study. “Teachers’ Perceptions of Their Principals’ Leadership Styles” is a quantitative case study that examines teacher perceptions within one rural, public East Tennessee school district of principal leadership styles based upon Kouzes and Posner’s five domains.

Cosby and wife Sheliah, ‘84, live in Harrogate, Tennessee. Their son Tyler, JD’16, is an attorney in Nashville.
