Lincoln Memorial University-College of Dental Medicine (LMU-CDM) Assistant Professor Undral Munkhsaikhan, MS, MD., Amal Sahyoun, Ph.D., Karima Ait-Aissa Ph. D., Associate Professor Modar Kassan, Ph.D., and Director of Biosciences Ammaar H Abidi D.D.S., Ph.D., authored a research paper that was accepted in the "Advances in Dentistry & Oral Health Journal".

"Advances in Dentistry & Oral Health" is an open access, international peer-reviewed journal published on behalf of the Juniper Publishers.

“Embracing the power of prostaglandins and the endocannabinoid system in oral pain management is to acknowledge nature's intricate design for healing. By understanding and harnessing these pathways, we unlock the potential to relieve oral discomfort and restore comfort with precision and care,” says Abidi.

According to the synopsis, there is a crosstalk between prostaglandins and the endocannabinoid system in the modulation of inflammation. This serves as a potential therapeutic option for the management of inflammatory pain associated with periodontal disease. Nonsteroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are commonly prescribed to manage acute inflammatory pain by inhibiting prostaglandin production, but their long-term use is harmful.

The study hypothesizes that the pharmacological properties of phytocannabinoids (pCBs) are dose-dependent and may produce different outcomes on prostaglandin activity.
