Mark Cannon Joins LMU-College of Dental Medicine as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs

Lincoln Memorial University-College of Dental Medicine (LMU-CDM) announces the hiring of Mark L. Cannon, DDS, MS as the associate dean for academic affairs.

 

Prior to joining LMU-CDM, Cannon received his Diplomate status from the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and is a professor of Otolaryngology at the Division of Dentistry at Northwestern University-Feinberg School of Medicine. He is a long-time member of the International Association of Pediatric Dentistry. In addition to founding an extensive multi-specialty highly respected private practice in the suburbs of Chicago, he is the research coordinator of the residency program at Ann and Robert Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. Cannon is also a Master Fellow of the American Academy for Oral and Systemic Health.

 

Originally a native of Nebraska, Cannon earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and then attended Children's Memorial Hospital for his residency in Pediatric Dentistry. Cannon completed his Masters in Pediatric Dentistry at Northwestern University. He was asked to stay and teach full-time and continued teaching at Northwestern while also opening his own dental office and practicing full-time. His practice was very successful and eventually became a large multi-specialty dental practice that served a significant number of patients in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago. In 2000, Dr. Cannon’s position was transferred to the medical school, and he completed significant oral medicine research, advancing to the rank of Professor.

This time is exciting for all of us in oral medicine education, never has our responsibility been so great, and the opportunities so invigorating.”

 

Cannon has presented guest lectures at the University of Athens, Greece, Sao Paulista State University, Aracatuba, Brazil, University of Texas- Houston, University of Alabama-Birmingham, University of California, Los Angeles, University of Southern California, Louisiana State University, Nova Southeastern University, CES Universidad (Medellin, Columbia) and at the University of Illinois, Chicago, Department of Pediatric Dentistry. He has presented to the following organizations, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Society of Dentistry for Children, the Academy of Dental Materials, the World Congress of Biological Materials, the International Association of Pediatric Dentistry, the Pediatric Dental Association of Asia, the Australasian Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, World Congress of Preventive Dentistry, Chicago Dental Society, Texas Dental Society, Utah Dental Society, Birmingham Dental Society, Mexican Association of Pediatric Dentistry, Brazilian Association of Pediatric Dentistry, Korean Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Hellenic Society of Pediatric Dentistry, American Academy for Oral and Systemic Health, Probiotics, Prebiotics, and New Food Congress (Rome) and the European Association of Pediatric Dentistry. Cannon has humbly accepted two invitations from the Karolinska Institute, first to the Nobel Forum in 2016 and second to the Nobel Assembly in 2017.

 

Most notably, Dr. Cannon is the proud father of five and proud grandfather of five beautiful children.
