Ethan Hubbard Honored with Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award at LMU Commencement

Algernon Sydney Sullivan AwardLincoln Memorial University (LMU) Vice President for Academic Affairs R. Jay Stubblefield, PhD, presented Ethan Hubbard, of Liberty Township, Ohio, with the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award at the LMU Spring Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 6.

Since 1890, the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Foundation has presented Sullivan Awards to college students who have distinguished themselves through service to others and their communities. LMU is one of approximately 60 colleges and universities in the United States to have the privilege of awarding the Sullivan Awards. LMU selects individuals whose “nobility of character” and dedication to service set them apart as examples of great citizenship.

Hubbard earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, graduating with valedictorian and Summa Cum Laude honors. In addition to his academic honors, Hubbard was also a member of the Railsplitter men’s volleyball team. He also founded the LMU Disc Golf Club and served as a Lincoln Ambassador for two years. Hubbard has served on the Lincoln Activities Board, Student Athlete Advisory Committee and in the Pre-Med Club. He has conducted research alongside Dr. Thomas Shell, assistant professor of chemistry.

Hubbard has been accepted and plans to attend LMU-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in the fall. He will be attending DCOM at LMU-Knoxville.

The Algernon Sydney Sullivan Foundation was established in honor of a celebrated 19th-century humanitarian and attorney who often represented poor clients for free if their cause was just. The Sullivan Foundation has been recognizing college students for service and outstanding character since 1890. Learn more.

Madison Criswell, a bachelor of science in veterinary health science degree recipient, and Judy Hansard, a community honoree, were also awarded Mary Mildred Sullivan Awards during the ceremony.
