LMU Set To Confer Nearly 300 Degrees on Saturday
Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) will hold its Fall Commencement Exercises in Tex Turner Arena on Saturday, December 11, 2021. The University will hold a ceremony honoring 135 undergraduate degree recipients at 10 a.m. and an afternoon ceremony honoring the 161 graduate and professional degree recipients at 2 p.m.
President Clayton Hess will confer 22 associate, 113 baccalaureate, 101 graduate, 21 educational specialist and 39 professional degrees over the course of the day. Additionally, the University will bestow the prestigious Sullivan Awards on honorees from the LMU student body and the community at large. LMU is one of approximately 60 colleges and universities in the United States to have the privilege of awarding the Algernon Sydney Sullivan and Mary Mildred Sullivan Awards. The awards are given to recognize individuals whose “nobility of character” and dedication to service sets them apart as examples for others.
Dr. C. William McKee, Cumberland University provost and vice president for academic affairs, will deliver the commencement address at both ceremonies. He has served the institution in a number of other administrative posts including executive vice president and dean. Additionally, he was previously an administrator at Georgia Southwestern State University. A Nashville native, McKee graduated from the University School of Nashville and then earned a Bachelor of Science in public administration from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, a Master of Education in counseling and student personnel from Auburn University and an Educational Doctorate in adult and higher education from the UT-Knoxville. Additionally, he is a graduate of the Carnegie-Mellon University Academic Leadership Institute, the American Council of Education/National Association of Student Personnel Administrators Stevens Institute on Leadership and Administration, as well as the University of Georgia Leadership Institute. McKee’s current teaching responsibilities include graduate courses in public services such as community issues, professional communications, and public policy and an undergraduate class in foundation and history of education. McKee regularly serves as a consultant to institutions of higher education, is a workshop leader, and presenter at both local and regional conferences. He devotes many hours of volunteer service to provide leadership in a variety of governmental and not-for-profit agencies and organizations in middle Tennessee.
Both ceremonies will be streamed live on LMU’s website and can be viewed on demand for anyone who can not attend in person.
